Wiltshire charity initiative

Helping children and families access nutritious food with dignity, practicality and local care.

Healthy Start Food Trust is being established to support access to healthy food, improve food security, and encourage better nutrition and wellbeing through community-focused partnerships and practical local action.

About the Trust

Healthy Start Food Trust exists to advance the welfare of children and families by supporting access to nutritious food and related community initiatives. Our intention is simple: to encourage healthier starts in life by helping communities, schools and organisations work together in practical, sustainable ways.

Nutritious food

We want healthy food to be more accessible, more consistent and more achievable for the families and communities who need it most.

Community partnership

We expect to work alongside schools, community groups, local organisations and supporters who share a practical interest in improving wellbeing.

Long-term resilience

Our aim is not merely to respond to immediate need, but to strengthen local food resilience through thoughtful, sustainable support.

What we hope to do

As the charity develops, our work may include several strands, all centred on access to nutritious food, informed food choices and improved wellbeing.

Practical support and collaboration

  • Support healthy school meal and holiday food initiatives where there is clear community benefit.
  • Work with schools, charities, local authorities and community partners on food-related projects.
  • Provide or help facilitate resources, funding or logistical support for suitable initiatives.
  • Encourage joined-up local solutions that are inclusive, constructive and sustainable.

Education, wellbeing and informed choices

  • Promote nutrition education and greater understanding of healthy eating.
  • Support projects linked to cooking skills, food confidence and practical knowledge.
  • Encourage approaches that strengthen family wellbeing and reduce barriers to good food.
  • Champion dignified support that does not make people feel singled out or labelled.

Why this matters

Rising household pressures can make access to good food more difficult. Children benefit when nutrition, routine, dignity and support come together. We believe local, well-managed help can make a meaningful difference.

A local response to a real need

Families can face pressure from food costs, energy costs and wider financial strain. In that context, access to healthy food is not a small matter. It affects routine, confidence, wellbeing and opportunity.

Healthy Start Food Trust is intended to provide a practical local framework through which support can be developed, encouraged and delivered responsibly.

Rooted in dignity and common sense

We want to encourage support that is respectful, constructive and quietly effective. The aim is not to create labels, but to help build a healthier and more resilient community environment for children and families.

  • Thoughtful rather than tokenistic
  • Practical rather than theoretical
  • Community-minded rather than isolated
